Training Design

I use a Guided Discovery approach to training design that I learned from my mentor, Lester T. Shapiro (author of the Training Effectiveness Handbook ). Each program, unit, or module starts with a specific learning objective that is tied to business or behavioral results.

I create highly participative segments of learning. The learners do the work, make the discoveries, practice the desired behaviors, and sharpen their skills to acheive their goals.

My specialty is blended learning programs that combine online learning, teleclasses, webinars, case studies, and highly immersive classroom gatherings. These fall into four primary types of time commitments for the learner:

One-hour overview sessions where people gather a piece of knowledge and can decide whether or not to dive deeper into the content and objectives.

Examples:
  • Time Management Now
  • How To Achieve Your Goals
  • Developing The Art of Leadership
  • Wake Up! You're The Boss!

One-day workshops highly focused on one key skill, such as conducting effective job interviews. These programs have worked as both stand-alone workshops and as segments within extended development programs.

Examples:
  • Change Management
  • Time Mangement Now!

Two-day immersion programs that allow learners extensive practive, relationship and network building, problem solving, and collaboration. These are highly effective for launching new leaders, orienting new team members, and building teams.

Examples:
  • Survival Skills for Managers and Supervisors
  • Solving Problems
  • Improving Performance

Mult-session programs at one or two week intervals that provide the opportunity for learners to build on their learning, practice the skills in and out of the program, and track their results. This approach works great with leadership development programs and project management teams.

Example:
  • Foundations of Leadership
  • High Performance Leadership
  • Career Development
